Adult porn star pioneer Marilyn Chambers dead at 56

Marilyn Chambers dead at 56 was the first
“cross-over” adult star having moved from doing
Ivory soap commercials to hard-core porn. She
was way ahead of her time thinking that porn
would have helped her acting career.
“Back
then in my naive brain I was thinking that
something like ’Behind the Green Door’ had never
been done before and the way our sexual
revolution was traveling I really thought it was
going to be a stepping stone which would further
my acting career,” she said. She learned
afterward, she said, that wasn’t the case.
“There will always be a stigma on people who do
adult films,” said Chambers. “It’s unfortunate
that that’s the way society has made it.”
Her two most famous films Behind the Green Door and Deep Throat were the first porn movies that were not just a bunch of sex scenes. There was real acting and a legitimate (although thin) plot. This brought couples to watch adult films, ushered in higher production values, and started showing these movies in places other than sleazy theaters.
